The „Baum Quartett“ is a quartet found in March 2016 in Seoul, South Korea. Through the intensive training over the existing individuals' talent and potential, they have already received numerous praises for their performances. The founding and current members consist of Sun Shin (violin), Onyou Kim (violin), Daekyu Han (viola) and Hang-Oh Cho (cello).
In August 2016 they participated in the highly appreciated music festival, „40. Internationale Sommerakademie für Kammermusik Niedersachsen“, and were fruitful in bringing the beauty of classical music closer to the hearts of the audience. Simultaneously they received lessons from some of the most renowned professors, to whom they were able to portray their limitless capacity for further improvements.
The next big project was the „9th Trondheim International Chamber Musik Academy 2016“, where the Baum Quartet undertook a concert together with Peter Jarusek (Pavel Haas Quartet). Many concerts, both big and small were held regularly, and their greatest success so far was achieved in September 2017. The Baum Quartet won the 2nd prize in „Salieri-Zinetti Chamber Music International Competition“, held in Verona. After this, they went on to participate in the „Mendelssohn Musikfestival 2017“, acquiring valuable lessons from one of the best musicians and advanced once again in their style of play.
Recently, they were invited to perform and make an interview on a LIVE concert stage in NDR Kultur 90.3, and further obtained the opportunity to play in Hamburg Elbphillharmonie, for winning the utmost Kultur Preis, sponsored by Berenberg Bank.
The name of the quartet, “Baum”, originates from a German word, “tree”. The tree symbolizes the beauty of unity constructed from individual components. The four members and their instruments represent these components, thus forming the wonderful unity of music.
Currently they are undertaking Master of Chambermusic under the guidance of Professor Niklas Schmidt at the Musikhochschule Hamburg.
